Z Plus lubrication

I want to lubricate the Z plus on my Pro. I have the Vactra but every link I found on this topic yesterday pointed to a web page with a general manual on the machine. The referenced PDF didnt seem to be there. Can you point me to the right procedure?

I was hoping to not have to retram the machine when done but if I have to take off that Z plate it seems unavoidable. And it appears taking that off requires taking off the router mount so the X axis would have to be fixed as well.

Am I missing something obvious?

Also, current wisdom on the X rails is still just a wipe down with a light coating of the oil?

The old PDF is on the Wayback machine at:

Current page is at:

Thanks. The PDF and the web page seem to disagree a little on the X axis. If I read it correctly the PDF indicates to add oil to the carriages and the web page does not.

Hopefully I can find that screw on the bottom of the Z and get a little oil in there without taking it off.

Where did you get the Vactra?

I bought 2 pints off of eBay. I think it is enough for 20 lifetimes. I would be more than happy to give some away but I am not sure if it’s really worth paying the shipping cost. If you want to check into that I can send you some. I am in south east Ga.

I bought a pint of it off of Amazon. It was about $18. eBay had better pricing but I don’t have an account and it wasn’t worth it to me to set one up just for the Vactra 2.

If I understand it right, the grub screws on the HG-15 bearing blocks are on the top center. I see four blocks. The problem is the bottom blocks grub screw is facing down. Getting oil in them and oil to stay in them is the problem, or is it? Is it enough to have oil in the top blocks only? Is the oil only for the ways or also for the bearings?

I was going to try it last night and see if I could get the screw back in fast enough but we had some bad storms roll through and I didn’t get to it. Hopefully I will have time tonight.

I want to cut a sign on Fri so would like time for and stoppage to resolve overnight. At least this sign is PVC so the oil won’t really impact it but I don’t want it all over my spoilboard.

Thanks. I’ll get it on eBay or Amazon

I was able to do the lubrication with the Z Plus in place. The lower holes were a bit of a pain but I have a visor with some super close up lenses and added a very tiny tip from a CA bottle to the end of the syringe. Not sure exactly how mush I got in there but some is better than none. I may try again in a week or so.

Those M4 screws look huge with the close up lenses.

Don’t forget to put the Z homing switch back on like I did. A bit of grinding reminded me. That switch has to be removed to access the port on the upper right side.

I wiped the X rails down with a tiny bit of oil and then just wiped everything else I could find with a clean rag.

Is the bottom of lead screw supposed to wiggle when the router is in the top position? I can move it from side to side slightly.

Yes. The bottom post is a stop, and the holes in it are for clearance, not to act as a guide. The bottom end of the leadscrew being free-floating reduces the likelihood of binding.
