Z zero decreasing during cut

My Z started dropping mid cut! Luckily I was able to stop it in time before any catastrophe.

Endmill was still secure and did not slip. But when I checked my Z zero right after, it was well below the zero I had set. Has anyone seen this behavior before?

I have a 1.5kW 65mm spindle on a Pro w/ Z-Plus.

I know you said the bit did not slip, but that looks like a classic case of a slipping bit.

Check the Z-axis motor wiring and connectors, including the wiring extensions and the controller.

I don’t think a slipped bit could continue to cut aluminum at full depth (.125”)
