Zero position after restart

Question:

I initialize machine, load tool as prompted, set zero, run a job, then disconnect or “park” machine (using CM) which sends the spindle to the back right top position, then power off and go inside. When I come back out the next day, power on, initialize machine, and load tool when prompted shouldn’t the XYZ zero be in the same place as it was?

Shapeoko 5 PRO using current versions of CC and CM. Thanks in advance.

Yes is should. But I would never just trust it start cutting. Always double check!!!

I always double check my zeros before cutting. The reason I ask is I made a sort of ruler out of ColorCore the other day and noticed the dimensions along the X axis are off. The 12" mark I cut measures to about 12-1/16", 24" mark is 24-1/8" and so on. So this has prompted me to look really closely at the X axis and I’ve noticed when I turn the machine on the day after a cut, with the previous days stock still in place, the x needs to be re-zeroed, but not z or y. Curious if anyone else has noticed this.

I suspect something went wrong or got changed on your prior job.

For background:

We have A LOT of users, more than I ever would have imagined, who set their zero one time and then never change it again (sometimes for years).

When we made changes to CM that required the zero to get reset, we had months of support tickets with, “Your software update broke my machine!!!” It turned out they forgot how to set a zero and didn’t ever remember doing it.

Well, mud on my face. It was my error in CC.

Must have got carried away with the old cut/paste. Case closed.
