I am trying to use my #502 bit ti get some small text to carve clearly, but even the small of operations takes a very long time. Can anyone suggest a safe depth of cut, as the suggested DOC in Carbide Create is .006?
I am engraving bamboo, by the way.
What size text are you trying to set?
Which machine do you have?
Note that Depth per Pass and Max Depth are two different values:

I am using a script text and the “Christmas” portion is 2" wide and .45" tall. I have the 5 Pro. The suggested depth per pass is .006. The max depth would be around .05. Currently that is showing a 20 minute carve time.
That is rather a small tool and a shallow cut for such a large area.
What material are you cutting? How thick is it?
If appropriate, try a V-carving instead?
