I have a c2d file created in build 652 of Carbide Create. It opens correctly in that version, but when I try opening the same file in the latest build (813) only a blank document appears. I tried drag/drop as well as File/Open… but the document contents appears to be ignored on load.
Is the new version not backwards compatible with older c2d files?
The answer depends. It has been documented that 3d files are not compatible from earlier versions in v8. I have downloaded v8 but have not used it yet. Plus I am currently on v7 of CC. V6 still had separate gcode files so you may have to redo your project in v8.
I ran into the V6 load into V8 problem. It drove me crazy until I found this posting.
I understand you can open a V6 in V7 and re-save in V7 and it will then be OK for V8. Is there a way to tell which version a file is created in? Or do I have to open all my files older than 2 years into V7 and resave?
Most of my files are pockets and profiles but there are some that are V-carve. Only 1 or 3 with 3D components.
I just told MS Explorer to open the .c2d file with Notepad and found the change date on my V6 to V7 files July 1 2022 which coincided with the V7 release date window. So in theory I can open the V6 files and resave in V7 and that will open in V8 with the noted omissions.
I teach a steamed bent wood fly fishing net class for our local nonprofit fly fishing club (www.csfly.net) as well as for the local chapter of “Healing Waters” which is a military veteran group that fishes. If/when something happens to me I’m donating all of my files, equipment, tools and forms to the club and wanted to make sure they received useful up-to-date digital data so the class can continue without me. I’m providing.SVG files as well as .cd2 files but I wanted to make sure they were usable.
