(Fix) It was possible to crash the program if tabs are updated when the tool paths are recalculating.
(Fix) Removed the last traces of the default floating-point validator from the tool edit window, so a comma should now be accepted as a decimal separator.
Once we release the next Carbide Motion release, that first item will become more meaningful.
Could you PLEASE change the default color of the first layer and stay away from red (and purple)? It’s such a simple change and it will remove so much confusion (selected vs. layer 1)
cool! I like the persistent layer list , although it took me a bit to find how to add a new layer, not intuitive. maybe add a + next to the Layers box title at the top to be able to add a new layer.
Also would be nice if the box expanded as you added layers beyond what fit in the window, or if it was expandable by the user.
That error message means that you’re probably on Windows 7 or Windows 8, which are missing some functions we rely on.
For what it’s worth, there’s been no change to the versions of Windows we support for a while, so this is not specifically related to this beta release.
I am running on a windows 10 pc. Now when I try to install I get a message can not run on this computer. It appears this will require a new pc. Don’t really want to spend money on another one. I guess I will be left in the cnc dust going forward.
Windows 10 is currently scheduled for end-of-life 14 October 2025:

To answer this one, they are one and the same. The “Pro” code is there, it’s just disabled until you apply the license. If you have the pro license “license.txt” in the data directory it should fire up in Pro mode.
There is no “end-of-life” planned for Windows 10. You can continue to use it for as long as you want. It’s just that there won’t be any more updates from Microsoft after October. I have always used a separate anti virus / Internet security program instead of Windows Defender so I plan to continue using Windows 10 for a quite a while yet …
I think the new layer view works great.
The only thing I could suggest is to change the background color from white to the same color as the rest of the tool panel. Maybe even change the color of the settings icon,
to that of the rest of the tools above it
I’m using a 2021 24-inch iMac running 13.4.1. The color profile is a my customization, proofed to color charts for maximum fidelity of photographic images. However I tried several other profiles including the native iMac, not much difference. Curious you would see something different on, say, Windows.
If the default layer is selected, and I click on the color swatch for another layer, it changes the default layer’s color. I have to select the layer, then select the color swatch.
