Carbide Create Max Depth Default Per Project

I’ve never quite figured out the pattern… I start a new project, set the stock thickness in Carbide Create, import/create my shapes then create my toolpath. In the toolpath, the Max Depth default seems to change… but I’ve never quite figured out what triggers the change. In a given project, it will always default to the same value for a new operation (which is not my stock thickness), but it’s always in relation to some max depth I’ve used in a recent project. It feels like there is some bug here… but back to the actual figure request, when setting up the stock, it would be nice if we could specify the default Start Depth and Max Depth for all subsequent toolpath operations created in the project. Thanks!

I’ve had similar issues too. And it is not clear to me either as to what gets it to remember a particular max depth.
It is a depth I have used in another project, though not necessarily the last one.

Perhaps somewhat more knowledgeable can chime in and tell us how to reset the default.

Quitting and restarting should restore the default state — if that doesn’t work, “About Carbide Create | Open Data Directory” and go into the Carbide Create folder and delete “settings.ini” and quit and relaunch — that will re-create that .ini file with the defaults.

If you then write up step-by-step:

  • what you did
  • what you expected
  • what actually happened

we can look into it with you.

A post was split to a new topic: Depth of cut when using Vectric Aspire

Thanks @WillAdams
Here are some of my findings. I cannot figure out a consistent pattern in the numbers.
CC build 813, tools were same for each iteration.

1
Stock 12 x 9.5 x 0.5
Created a rectangle vector.

Toolpath: Pocket, #102
max depth 0.118
Changed to 0.5
Saved, CC closed

2
New file
Same stock showed up as 1 (expected, if it is defaulting to last used stock)
Changed to 10 x 9 x 0.6
Created a new rectangle vector.

V carve 90 deg bit
Max depth shows up as 0.118

Pocket
Max depth shows up as 0.118, expected 0.5 from #1
Changed to 0.135
Saved, closed CC

3
New file
Stock: Same as 2 (expected)
Changed to 10 x 9 x 0.7

Created a new rectangle vector.
Pocket
Max depth shows up as 0.118 (would have expected 0.135)
Changed to 0.3
Saved, closed CC

Opened CC
Re opened 1
Saved it

4
New file
Stock, same as 2, 10 x 9 x 0.6 (expected #1, last saved or #3 last new)
Changed to 10 x 10 x 0.8

Created a new rectangle vector.
Pocket
Max depth shows up as 0.118 (would have expected 0.135)
Changed to 0.25
Saved, closed CC

5
Open New
Stock same as 4, 10 x 10 x 0.8 (as expected)
Changed to 10 x 10 x 0.9

Created a new rectangle vector.
Pocket
Max depth shows up as 0.118 (would have expected 0.25)
Changed to 0.6

Advanced V carve
Max depth shows up as 0.118
Changed to 0.25
Saved, closed CC

I believe that there is some interaction with the diameter of the tool.

Someone else would have to chime in with specifics or evaluate what might be done.
