Carbide Motion crash on loading a file

I have been using Carbide Create/Motion for several years. Recently, the laptop I use for Carbide Motion started dying on me so I got a new laptop (with Windows 11). I was able to get through the configuration just fine, including Bit Setter. But when I loaded a file (any file, I’ve tried many) it gets loaded to almost done and then I get the Bug Splat screen. I see somebody else had that issue, and they fixed it by getting another computer.

I have now loaded files made with CC7 and CC8, files on my NAS, files local, small files, big files, and they all do the same. So there are several crash reports that I have sent for analysis. I would prefer NOT to have to go get yet another computer without knowing why this one keeps crashing.

Anybody who has access to those crash dump files able to help me and tell me what is causing the crashes?

Thanks.

I love it when my thread gets hijacked.

Since my original thread got hijacked, let’s try this again.

Who do the BugSplat records get sent to? I’ve submitted several now. New computer, loaded Carbide Motion (latest version), selected and initialized my Shapeoko 3 XL with BitSetter (all that worked great), but when I load a file, any file, from my NAS or from the local hard drive, CM crashes with a BugSplat report. I’ve loaded simple files, complex files, CC7 files, CC8 files, all with the same result. Is there anybody at Carbide 3D who can look at my reports and tell me what is causing the crashes?

Thanks.

If you will make your .gcode (or .nc or .tap) file available, I will try to look into it.

That said, if this is happening with multiple files it’s probably some sort of issue with journaling or your file system.

Note that we have a simple file at:

https://carbide3d.com/hub/courses/running-shapeoko/hello-world/

and if the G-code from that causes a crash, it’s definitely not an issue with how the G-code is formatted/generated.

Hi Ron,

Sorry, I was just seeing that we have the same issue that I would also post my issue here for better visibility of the issue.

No ill feelings I hope,
KAP

I am having the same issue after upgrading from a windows 10 to 11 laptop, same symptons: file gets to 99% loaded and then bugsplat (which gives limewire-era virus vibes btw). I’ve reinstalled CM probably 10 times. The issue is definitely not with my cnc or probably even CM as I’m using 640 on both. Will, what file system or journaling issues might there be on a fresh install of both windows and CM? Could Windows 11 Pro have something to do with it? I’m going to try my other Windows 11 laptop shortly.

Send a file which cause a crash in to support@carbide3d.com and we will look into this with you.

Let us know where you are loading the file from (note that we recommend the local hard drive, not a removable USB drive).
