Hi,
Is it necessary to complete these steps when opening a file that was downloaded from CutRocket?
I downloaded two different projects and neither open in CCv8. The projects were both uploaded several years back…
Please and thank you!

Cutrocket should not have STL files — if there are any difficulties, message the person who uploaded the file.
I just downloaded a 3rd project from a 3rd uploader; five (5) .c2d files between these 3 downloads and not one of them opens in CCv8. I don’t think the issue lies with the uploaders and/or their files…
For 3D files see:
If you are still having trouble, let us know about the specific files at support@carbide3d.com and we will look into them there.
Confirmed with Support that any (.c2d) files downloaded from Cut Rocket will not open in V8. You will need V7 or both V7 & V8.
Download and open in V7 then export at SVG, they then can be opened in V8.
Or just use V7…
It would then seem that you will forever have to use v7 to use the Cutrocket site models.
I do not see any indication that a model is in v7 or v8 format.
This is not an optimum arrangement. Actually seem a bit self inflicted. Too bad.
That’s only for files that contain 3D components. 2D files are compatible with V8.
V7 2D files are compatible with V8.
V8 2D files may or may not be correct with V7 depending on the toolpaths. There is no warning when loading incompatible files, it just silently gives something that looks right but is actually wrong.
I know that V8 VCarve toolpaths with a clearing bit end up being duplicated when loaded into V7, there’s no real way of know what else doesn’t come across properly.
If folks have specific difficulties with specific files, please send them in to support@carbide3d.com and we will do our best to work through them with you.
It would be surprising if a newer version data ( or a subset ) is compatible with an older version.
If there are issues with an older version data not working in a new version, that should be flagged.
I do not know the percentage of v7 files in CutRocket that contain 3D models. Those should be flagged with a warning or someone should rebuild them.
I think it should be up to the submitter of the project to identify in the comments what version was used for the design and whether or not it’s a 3D project when they submit the project to CutRocket. Maybe there could be check boxes in the submission form that one can check off to identify these things.
