From my testing, a small gap of under ~4-5mm is fine to keep things relatively clean. Bigger chips will still occasionally sneak out, but I’ve sometimes run the bottom shoe without brushes when using extremely short endmills. My vacuum is enough to neutralize the router downdraft so the most harmful stuff (small airborne particulates) are caught, and the rest of the swarf settles quickly.

I’m on the waiting list now. Just got the HDZ upgrade. Wish I’d known about Sweepy before purchasing the ears from c3d and hardware kit from suck it!
