Fantastic news! Thank you for bringing this out! “I think I’m gonna need a bigger USB hub…”
Am I right in assuming that the HI/LOW button is continuous jogging speed? And is the jog wheel increment settable? (Back in my Tormach days I kept its wheel at .0001"/click)
You guys should really look into a hexagrid-patterned build plate for your printer…
HI/Low is for continuous jog speed and for the jog increment on the encoder. I think the “low” increment ends up being right about a single motor step for each encoder click.
I’m stoked these are up now. I’ve had one for a bit and love it since I’m used to industrial style jogging. The improvements in CM have it acting pretty close to a pendant on an industrial machine. If you don’t wiz the wheel like a madman, they are pretty smooth. I liked my beta so much, we ordered one for the S4Pro and HDM at work.
The Hi/Low set either the speed for the continuous +/- buttons as well as setting the increment for the machine. The increment varies for the various machines and does seem to be tied to a single stepper step. On my S5Pro the hi is something like 0.010" and the low is something like 0.0005". Whereas on the S4Pro the low is 0.001"
I sincerely love the Pause (Feed Hold) and play (Resume) buttons on the pendant. Makes it easy to pause and adjust a dust boot foe example.
I was also blessed with ownership and can wholeheartedly say that I wouldn’t want to go back to life without one. I would say firmly classifiable as a luxury, but it sure beats having to use a clunky wireless keyboard or stretch over and fumble with my laptop keyboard. Setting zero without bitZero is fantastic with the pendant. I only wish I could set zero point on the pendant and not have to head to the jog menu to do it.
Huh, like maybe a little trio of guarded buttons for zeroing the X, Y and Z axes?
Or maybe a software implementation, like press and hold X or Y or Z button for 3 seconds to zero that axis, then the Play button to confirm, or Feedhold button to cancel (in case of accidental button press)?
Maybe the A button would zero all three axes at once?
Does this work only when CM is on the ‘Jog’ page? Since Quick Actions are on the ‘Run’ page, I am always switching right now, since the BT keyboard solution only works when the ‘Jog’ page is selected.
The Jog Pendent, for me, has been a huge time saver. Lately I’ve run many parts over my S3 to where I clamp down small boards and scraps and have to set zeros many times to get my cuts done. Jogging with the buttons and then the jog wheel gets that done nicely. The pendent fits nicely in my hand to where I can change axis and direction quickly and just thumb the wheel to zero in. Basically, no more looking at the computer to get my zero’s manually.
The pendent is connected to a older MacBook Pro running the latest version of CM. Attached is a picture to get an idea of the size.
That’s the plan, but we (actually I) wanted to roll that into a bigger update where we show all of the zero and rapid position on the screen when there’s a jog pendant connected rather than the direction buttons, which would be redundant.
Take my money
This is guaranteed to be a worthwhile quality of life update.
I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, beyond just the quality of life, a good pendant literally pays for itself. If you’ve ever broken a cutter while jogging with your head tilted at an awkward angle and arm stretched out to a keyboard, you know exactly how much $$ a more ergonomic workflow can save you
It’ll be interesting to see how the encoder feels in the hand. A solidly built large encoder can be one of the most satisfying fidget toys tools in the workshop
