HDM part maximum

Hello guys,

Can anyone tell me the maximum sized part I can do an end mill on with the HDM?

Thanks

The specs page notes:

Axis dimension
X-Axis travel 690mm (27in)
Y-Axis travel 535mm (21in)
Z-Axis travel 145mm (5.7in)

So if using a 1/2" tool, roughly 26.5in x 20.5in x 5.7in. — this would of course depend on part geometry and workholding and so forth.

The width between the Y rail covers is 30", so the workpiece can be that wide if you’re not cutting around the edge. The front & back are open, so the length is theoretically unlimited if you have room for the workpiece to hang out & be supported.
Z clearance is also about 5.7" with the stock spoilboard slats. You can move the spindle up or down to accommodate tool length / job height. So you can use nearly all of the 5.7" travel if you need to. You may need more than one tool to do deeper cuts on tall parts.

you think if i bought a 1/2" 24 x 18" aluminum square plate, i could end mill it to give it a bit of an aesthetic shape (other than straight square), and cut some holes into it for screws to go through it?

can the HDM handle that?

Yes.
