Help with "model shape"

Yes, thank you all, its starting to come together in my head now. Will make changes and test this afternoon.

Much improved, but the ends are still a little rough and thats from the finishing pass.

That does not match the 3D preview of the toolpaths:

If nothing shifted mechanically, perhaps add additional 3D finishing toolpath(s) at various angles?

If that won’t work, perhaps try a 3D CAM tool with more control over toolpaths such as MeshCAM?

It’s odd that the piece on the left is so much different on the end as the piece on the right when both pieces share the same tool path. Is you machine mechanically sound? Could your work holding have slipped a bit? Also, consider running your finishing tool path at 90Âș if your roughing pass is at 0Âș.

That the parts shifted position seems likely given that the Contour toolpath:

precedes the 3D Roughing and Finishing toolpaths — it should be last.

Im using blue tape with CA glue for work holding. There is zero indication of movement.

Now that im just about there. Is there any way in CC pro to add a texture? I also have a topo map i would like to carve, but unsure about applying it to the curved surface.

i see, i was trying to eliminate too much wear and tear on my ball end.

Draw the design of the texture, then subtract it as a 3D shape from the model of the part.

It appears the design of the texture has to be bits of enclosed vectors and not just lines in order to do the 3d shape subtract?

Correct.

Open geometry only works w/ Contour toolpaths.

I got the free trial for CC Pro that I designed these knife scales with. If my free trial ends before I can purchase Pro, will I still be able to cut with the file I have saved, but just wont be able to make any adjustments to speeds, feeds, etc.?

If you open the file in CC free, the model tab & model won’t show up. Neither will any of the 3D or other Pro toolpaths. If you subsequently save the file, that data will be gone.
The .c2d file will still contain the model & toolpaths, so you can continue to use it in CM.
Or, you can save Gcode (.nc) files from the trial. Those you can edit (if you know how).
