Help with pocked countour cuts

Hi all, I am working on learning to use the pocked command to cut the outer shape or the countor of a shape. I can’t seem to figure out how to use tabs when i am using a pocked command to cut the outershape?

Can anyone tell me how to use tabs with a pocket cut ?

So far all of the items i make let go at the end and get ruined now.
I tried not cutting all the way to the bottom but this is not a good way cus it still ends up cutting too much and letting go or its too hard to get the piece out after.

oops i ment to post the file with it, here it is.

I think you need to have the pocket go down to the height of the tabs and then have a contour that does the final bit and leverages the tabs.

When I looked at the file I don’t see tabs. If you want to use tabs that function it is in the Design Tab. With the vector chosen, it is the bottom right

Ohh I had tabs on that file but the machine ignored them I took them out and forgot!
So is the only way to do this cut with the above suggested to make a second toolpath with tabs?

I can’t check my machine right now. If you are at yours, look at the various toolpaths. I think the contour is the only one that has the “ignore tabs” option which would imply that it is the only one that pays attention to tabs.

My bad, I did not look deep enough.

Question: The pocket is to cut it out Right?

So what I did was create a Contour path that would cut it out. Just there for representation. Yes a pocket is best for cutting out the shape. You could go with the painters tape and super glue method of work holding to prevent the contour cut I put in.

Is this what you are after?

Here is the file

Did you repost the file after altering it? @Zman ?

You need to Pocket down to the height of the tabs, then do a Contour starting at the depth, with the tabs enabled.

Thank Michal. Learned something new

Yes I learned something new and powerful today ! Thanks @mhotchin

I feel this should all be added to the tutorial as I took a bad path learning countour pathing . It seems that you would use the contour command to cut things out.

Is there a way to tell the depth of the tabs?

Tab depth is set in the Toolpath.

So we’re not supposed to use contour to cut things out? How do you use the pocket method?

See:

This was super helpful. Thank you!

So after cutting down to the tab, depth with the 10% extra Width. You then set a contour with tabs.
Do you start the contour cut, where the last cut ended depth wise?

Yes, unless you leave a roughing clearance and are taking a finishing pass.

I am having trouble finding cabinet depth in specify, where in tool path it actually is?
