How to 3d Model bottom of oval bowl

So I successfully managed to Model the top of an oval bowl. I figured out the Subtract command.

Having trouble modeling the bottom of the bowl, leaving a footing. I’ve tried all the commands I think possible Height Limit, Merge Type. Attached is a pic that’s as far as I can model.

The stock I’m working with is 2.75" high. The oval dimension is 20"x8", the footing is 13"x5" and I’d like it rounded from the footing down to within .25"(base height). Using a 3/8" ball nose.

Can anyone show me what I might be missing in the Shape menu’s? I’m thinking because the area of the contour is outside of the footing it’s not possible in Carbide Pro.

Thanks,
Scott

Upload your file and profile drawings of what you are trying to model?

20inchx8bowl.c2d (136 KB)

I’ll work out a profile drawing on Fusion 360 and upload shortly.

I screenshot my fusion screen. Best profile I could come up with. The radius is not set in stone.

If you’re using Fusion 360, why not use that for CAM? It’s reputedly quite good?

To model a similar shape in Carbide Motion you have to inset by twice that dimension, then model in the round.

so select the inner geometry and inset it again my that dimension:

Apply

Then select the original outer geometry and the offset inner geometry:

and model them as a rounded form:

Except that the inset is not even:

which the current version of Carbide Motion can’t work with — an alternate approach would be to just model the entire rounded form (after increasing the space around things)

adjusting settings until a reasonable form is arrived at:

Done

Note however that we want to be doing this in the new v8 beta:

because this then affords the option of right-clicking to “Create Outline Vectors”:

which outline we can use to flatten the bottom of the bowl:

Apply

Many thanks for your time on this. I’ve been modeling in Fusion off and on for about 3 years with the free version. If I’m honest I haven’t dove into the CAM environment to date because of the learning curve. I barely learned the basics in modeling by watching Lars Christensen and Brad Talis on Youtube. I will give it some thought about swinging back and picking up Fusions CAM skills.

You nailed the Model at the end of your post. Is the v8 beta available? Link?

Thanks
