Lighting up your zero on stock

Just asking if any smart ideas to light up the point on your board to set all the Zeros.I currently use a portable light to shine in the area but still just a fraction off making it clear all around the point.I generally set the zero at the top and z on the spoil board.

Some folks use led light strips:
Easy to install
Can be exceptionally bright
Can be dust and water proof
Tend to be “permanent” installs

others use portable lights marketed for photography:
Usually just a magnet or 3d print to hold them
Very small for the amount of light they put out
Generally useful around the shop
Temporary/easy to move around

Regardless, I’d recommend a couple of things:
Get something with decent quality light. CRI 90+ is what I’d recommend.
Get a consistent color temperature.
Get something that is easy to turn on/off “remotely” (not necessarily wireless, just make sure the only way to turn it on isn’t a switch on the housing. Super annoying)

Single color temperature lights tend to be much brighter for their size than color temp tunable lights. So if you’ve got a favorite temp, just get a specific one for that temp.

In my experience, “analog” led strips are the best bang for buck. Exceptional light output, very cheap, beautifully dimmable. You just need to make sure you get an analog led driver in that case. I wouldn’t recommend the cheapest analog led drivers since you might find they flicker (they flicker really fast so it might not be obvious but it can matter a lot if you have any kind of light sensitivities)

No affiliation but I tend to use btf-lighting fcob strips these days: Amazon.com: BTF-LIGHTING FCOB COB LED Strip IP65 Flexible High Density Uniform Light 14W/m 16.4FT DC24V Natural White 4000K 528LED/m CRI 90+ 10mm Width Dimmable LED Ribbon for Decor(No Adapter or Controller) : Tools & Home Improvement
And their controllers aren’t too bad either.
This is more of a “component” setup though where you need the strip, a matching voltage power supply, and a controller if you want dimmable.

And here’s a post that’s probably overkill for what you want but maybe it’ll be useful :man_shrugging:
