Linear Array and 3D toolpaths

Let’s say that I am batching out a large number of 3D parts/designs. When i choose the linear array option under the design tab the 3D model does not appear to copy over to the other parts and the 3D toolpath only seems to work on the original. The rest seem to cut a pocket.

You will need to duplicate the 3D model — however, this has implications for the detail of the model — as I understand it, the pixel image (2000 x 2000 pixels for Very High) is stretch across the longest axis of the stock, so if one had a 20" x 1" project, then there would be 100 pixels per inch along the long dimension (for 2,000 pixels), while the 1" dimension would also have 100 pixels.

To export the 3D model, see the technique at:

but it would probably be better to edit the G-code file and use G92 and local commands for setting the origin — perhaps there’s some tool for batching G-code files which will allow doing this?

Yes, I need to duplicate the 3D model, can carbide create not do that? If it cannot then it seems you are saying that the resolution becomes and issue if I were to copy paste a bunch of them and then import them into carbide create.

I don’t understand how your quoted post is relevant. I am not converting from v7 to v8. I have a part in an stl file and I want to cut 30 of them.

The quoted post shows how to export a 3D model and reimport it — isn’t that what you asked after doing?

Just use Linear Array to make an array of objects which are located where you want the 3D model to be and import the exported pixel image into each.

I am still not sure that I follow. Here is what I think you are saying

  1. Import the 3D stl file
  2. Create a 2D outline
  3. Use the grid feature to create a 2D grid
  4. Export and then reimport the 3d stl file (which I will need to repeat 30 times to generate 30 parts.

Do I follow you?

  1. Create the 3D model which you want in Carbide Create using a Stock size as small as possible
  2. Export it as a pixel image from Carbide Create
  3. Draw a 2D outline in a new file with suitable settings — note that the new beta 816 includes new options for greater 3D model resolution which may help
  4. Use the Linear Array feature to create as many duplicates as needed, arranged as desired.
  5. Import the pixel image as a Height/Depth Map to create the desired duplicates
