So I decided to take a stab at some of the 3D features of Carbide Create. I figured I would try the alligator that I see all the time. So I found where the gentleman from Carbide 3D did his office door, and found the file on Cutrocket. Once saved, it opened beautifully and everything appeared as it should. Under the Model feature I saw that he had a layer saved as “Smaller Gator”. So I turned off the “Larger Gator” layer and and turned on the the smaller one. I have a hunk of walnut butcher block that was a drop from a sink cutout on a countertop. So I entered my material size and thickness, resized all of the stuff to fit my stock, deleted any unnecessary components like the door and lock cutouts, etc. I changed the tools to the appropriate sizes for my project for the roughing and finish passes. I got to times and finish quality I could live with, ran the simulation and everything looked great. I hit save then called it a night. I get up this morning and go out to the shop. I open Carbide Motion fire up the Shapeoko, and load the job. I zero the machine and start the job. It then proceeds to try to make a full depth pass all at once. So, I shut it down. I go back inside to my main computer, open the file I had saved the previous night. Everything is gone. All that remains is my stock and a toolpath that would cut my project down to the base hight. I figure I must have done something wrong. So I do it all over again. This time after hitting save, I went and reopened the file immediately. Same result. Everything gone. All of the 3D elements are missing. I imagine I have missed something somewhere. Any thoughts?
Which version of Carbide Create are you using?
Where are you saving to? (we recommend the local hard drive, then copy to removable media)
I am using Carbide Create Pro, Build 838.
I save to a folder on my desktop.
Because my good computer that I design on in the house and the Microsoft Surface that I use to run Carbide Motion are both signed into the same Microsoft account, they both have the same desktop, as both computers are backed up to my account. So I will use Create in my office, then go to the shop and open up the same file right off the desktop in Motion. I have now done this with multiple projects with no issue.
Additionally, the second time this happened, I saved and reopened it on the same computer. It’s being lost in the save, not between devices. My only thought may be that when the original project was created, it was done in a much earlier version of Carbide Create. Maybe there is a compatability issue.
As noted in the announcment:
https://carbide3d.com/blog/create-v8/
Create V6 files do not load into V8
Moreover:
Files from prior versions will not load 3D components in V8. There were too many changes to the internal format for the new capabilities of 3D, and there was no good way to map existing 3D components into V8.

and so forth
Hey, well that explains it perfectly. Thank you so much! There are so many moving parts to keep track of. I am very grateful to have your help!
