All,
I’ve been trying to cut out an epoxy sign and the cutting process suddenly stops with a message “GRBL Not Found on Device”. I shut the router off and try to reconnect and I get GRBL not found. After powering down and unplugging I’m able to reconnect and initialize. I restart my cutout and mid cut it stops and triggers the error again. I’m using carbide motion 618 and CC Build 757 on a Mac. I had to recently replace my limit switches and purchased the Carbide proximity upgrade. The machine is a Shapeoko 3XXL. I’ve been using this machine for the past few days without issue. Why now?
Thank you.
Steve
Epoxy generates quite a bit of static which can contribute to EMI issues.
Things to try:
- change the carbon brushes in your router
- ground your dust collection setup
- lightly spritz the stock with water before cutting
To really ground everything to earth, use one of these: http://amzn.com/B00MNP1I3I
Clip it to bare metal on the X rail and plug the other end to an outlet.
Another thing you can do is ground the router itself — this should be done w/o defeating the double insulation of the electronics. Best advice is to connect the router body electrically through the dust shoe (I just wrap a bit of foil tape around it) along the hose (either use a conductive hose such as: Dust Collection Hose | Dust Collection | Peachtree Woodworking Supply or run a bare wire from the dust shoe (or start it at the router) and if your vacuum isn’t designed to ground the hose, then connect it to the same ground as the vacuum.
An excellent post discussing this is:
Thanks for the feedback Will. I ended up updating my Carbide Create and Carbide Motion. I was able to complete my project. I do see the static issue as the chips love to cling to the outside of the dust boot. I’ll add the grounding project to my winter project list! Thanks again.

Later versions of Carbide Motion have slightly increased the timeout wait if memory serves, hence the software update working.
Figured the updates were probably the first place to start and go from there.
Thanks.
