Measure from the bottom up?

Hello;

I have several pieces I wish to surface to a uniform thickness. The pieces will be Planed True on one side. Is there any way, through use of system variables, to set the final depth of a cut to a value above the base height? So that I can zero off the waste board, and then cut each piece to, say, .375" above that?

Use Stock Bottom in Job Setup, set the thickness to a dimension greater than 0.375", then cut a pocket to the difference.

So, to be sure I follow -
Find the thickest board, let’s say it’s .534.
In the surfacing file, I can just go to Job Setup, Zero Height → Bottom, and Thickness to .535
Create a pocket that is .160 in depth, ramp in, Start Depth at 0.000
On the CNC, I can set Z directly on the wasteboard, using the #201
Then it’s simply a matter of load, run, repeat?

Yes, that is it — for a bit more on this sort of thing see:
