Methodology for numbering tools

In the course of working on this, I prepared a list of Carbide 3D tools — since tooling #s were recently asked after on Support, here is a list of all the tooling which Carbide 3D sells:

Smaller tools (1##):

Larger/coated/specialty tools (2##):

V, and Amana tools (3##):

Specialty tools (5##):

Surfacing tools (6##):

Note that for various reasons there are some oddities (#201 and #202 should be reversed, #274 and #282 might arguably be #174 and #182, #322 as #351 would match the other downcut tool in that size, &c.) but a short and workable set of numbers is the prime consideration…
