I ordered a bit that I want to use in Carbide Create Pro. This bit is not listed in Carbide Create Pro when choosing toolpaths… What do you do when you use a bit that is not listed as an option? Can the system/machine do what is expected? Do you have to stay with only the options shown in the list of bits?
Bit is a cove bit. 1/4" shank 1" cutter. Image attached.
Enter this as a ball-nose, but you’ll need to be careful of feeds and speeds and I’d recommend removing the bulk of the material with a smaller tool with better chip evacuation and using this only for a finishing pass.
A good tip on using this large diameter bit…If this bit is not a well known brand I would reduce all my cutting feeds and speeds by half. Some of the lesser known brands do not have shafts that are very strong and will deform/bend under pressure. You don’t want that to happen to you.
I saw a video of a guy making a wavy american flag and he did his 3D rough with this bit. He said he just “lets this bit fly” but he was using a different software and was able to specify this bit. I will rewatch to get some feeds, speeds and stepover and will certainly start with something I know and let this bit do less work before I trust it to do more removal.
