Powering ventilation fans from VFD?

I did a forum search and didn’t find the exact topic so posting here. Please send url if this is already covered.

I just got the C3D VFD and ER11 spindle for my S. Pro. I am interested in adding some PC-style fans to my enclosure for ventilation. I know I can buy plug-in fans, but also believe the fans can be wired to the VFD such that the fans are only spinning when the spindle is running. I believe a buck converter would be used to lower voltage to the fan power. I am comfortable with wiring/splicing in general, but do not know my way around a VFD. Any advice appreciated.

I believe if the fans are 110 AC that:

will work?

EDIT as was mentioned in a PM, @HashPoW touched on this in:

which maybe is sufficient for someone to offer further information/advice?

That’s definitely and option and would work. I was more curious if it’s possible to wire some DC fans to the VFD in the same way that some people wire water pumps to the VFD to start automatically when the spindle starts.

I’d use the vacuum switch that Will mentioned- it’s the least invasive way to go, and they work well for us.
