Attempting to set the zero for a new job with the bitzero V2 on my Shapeoko 3 XXL with CM V640. I am setting the bit down into the pocket, attaching the magnet ground wire, then go to probe. I am then prompted to select the bit size, (new). When I start the probe, the bit just traverses straight down to the bottom of the bitzero (instead of measuring X,Y side to side, front to back). At this point the probing cycle errors out with the following error:
Please start the probing cycle with the spindle closer to the probe.
NOTE: If the machine crashed into the probe, you will need to reinitialize the machine to continue.
I dont have a v2 BitZero but I think you have to start less than 6MM above the BitZero. On the V1 you have to start 6MM or less above the BitZero because that is assumed in the operation. The bit travels down to given depth before trying to find the edges of the BitZero. Suggest you find the user guide for the V2 BitZero to verify where to start the probe.
I am definitely setting the bit less than 6mm above the bitzero. Setting it inside the pocket about 1/4" or less. It should then measure X and Y then lift up and measure Z on the top of the bitzero, It has always worked this way since I got the bitzero over a year ago.
This is new behavior and I am not sure if it is related to the recent changes made to the workflow in CM but I know it did still work correctly after the new workflow was implemented in CM 636.
The v1 and v2 have different heights and as you found out they dont work the same. the v1 has to be over a circle on the top of the BitZero. Then the X and Y are found and then moves to the top of the BitZero for Z. The v2 goes down the hole and finds X and Y and then moves to the top for Z. since the two BitZero versions have different heights and different way of finding X and Y that is why it failed. Good Luck in the future.
