Print/Display Tool Numbers

Is there a way to view or download the Carbide tool library so that I can see what Tool Numbers are already taken? I am wanting to add some bits, but don’t want to step on top of previously used numbers. I’m guessing this question has come up before and I’m simply not seeing that post…thanks

Not sure you can print the existing tools. You can look on the C3D shopping site to see what they offer.

I just started my tool numbers for my tools at 700. I have a sticker on my machine for what each custom tool is.

There aren’t that many — I prepared a list at:

So far, ALL C3D tool numbers are 3 digits. The highest tool number they have is in the 600’s.

I would just start at 1000 and call it a day. If you really like, you could then match C3D number ranges, + 1000.

Thanks Michael, exactly what I did!

Is there a coding reason the programmers couldn’t use just text including alpha and not just numerics on the tool? It would be incredibly helpful and seems to be kind of common sense to alleviate having to print out a sheet of tool codes. Or allow it to show the code plus the “common name”.

GRBL (the code on the Shapeoko itself) requires that the tool numbers be, well, numeric.

Recent versions of CC + CM now write the toolnames into the GCode, so now CM will prompt by tool name.
