S3 XXL - HDZ - Lost Z Movement

I was running a job and 4 hours in the machine got a lost connection error.

I restarted everything and tried to rerun the program, it give me a warning and said that it would plunge under the material into the wasteboard by 6mm.

In the process of trying to figure out what’s going on I realized that when I lower my Z axis all the way it no longer reaches my workpiece. In stops short. It seems I’m losing like 1"+ on my ability to plunge down.

I looked and searched around and no obvious visual issue (except the slides on the linear rails don’t go all the way to the bottom, they stop around 1/2" short, maybe this is normal, not sure)

Searching around I found this might be the potential problem?

leadscrew anti backlash nut assembly

If so can I get directions how to fix it please?

Or if its another issue please lmk. Thanks

The HDZ has a ball-screw, the only maintenance is lubrication:

What is more likely is that the origin was set with a longer tool, and a shorter one is now installed and that you are okay to go ahead and finish the cut.

This calculation was changed in more recent versions — once you are done, please update Carbide Motion:

which in addition to updating how this is handled, adds a facility for continuing an interrupted cut.

I was able to bypass the warning of crashing into to wasteboard, thanks you were correct.

I’ll download the new version of motion once the job is complete.

Appreciate your help!
