Save Toolpaths for reuse in other projects

Is there a way to save toolpaths for reuse in different projects? I am guessing probably not since the gcode is specific to a projects dimensions and other settings and it doesn’t really take long to recreate, but if I could save the basic settings for reuse that would be cool.

Yes, delete what one doesn’t want, save under a new name as a .c2d file, then import that file into a new file where one wants those resources.

Thanks Will. I don’t think I was specific enough in my example but could also be misunderstanding your suggestion. I was thinking if I had the perfect chamfer in one project and vcarve settings from a different project, there was a way to save those individually without having to create different projects.

I have to do some testing but I think it may be possible to do this if I create new tools with the parameters from the settings I like and then pick those from the tool selection menu. Not 100% sure about this though.

Does it not work to save out separate files with the V carve and chamfer and include them into a single project?

I think I understand what you’re looking for. The easiest way I have done this create a project with a 4X4 work area. Created design and tool paths for certain operations that I will “usually” need for a project. I set these tool paths off to the side of the workspace (although there is room on the 4x4). Open my “template file, save it to the new project designator and start designing the project. Then I can grab my predesign/tool-paths and place them on the workspace. If needed I can revert to the design tab and make minor changes, tool-path updates the changes.

CC only opens one file at a time based on the manual. It’s not like having two or more word documents open and copying and pasting between them. If this is actually possible then I don’t have enough experience yet to do that.

It takes some time up front but helps in my case. Lately I’ve found its about as fast to recreate the toolpath as my proficiency increases with CC use.

v8 allows multiple windows:

Interesting, I missed this in the write up for V8 or I read so long ago I forgot. This means we can copy and paste from file to file?

Yes, it should work to copy-paste from one file to another.

Awesome, thank you. It will be the weekend before I can try it out. I’ll post my results.

NOTE: You can open more than one instance of Carbide Create by double clicking on the *C2C file. NOT by opening another from inside of Carbide Create.

There’s a new menu entry:

Thanks for the explanation.
