Shapeoko 3 0.9 to 1.1f

I bought my Shapeoko 3 new and the GRBL version it came with is 0.9, I want to use it with a jtech laser and lightburn and lightburn strongly recommends at least version 1 or greater of GRBL.

I found a few forum posts from a while back that said contact support for an updater Firmware update?

However when I contacted support they are no longer willing to help and instead want me to buy a whole new controller.

Does anyone have a copy of the old updater that they are willing to share as well as the 1.1F file?

The alternative to this is to:

  • download the Arduino SDK
  • download the Grbl source
  • edit the headers to set the Carbide 3D defaults (the comments should make this obvious)
  • compile Grbl
  • use the SDK to reflash the Arduino with it — note that if the bootloader is absent/corrupt you will need a second Arduino to use as a bootloader (once it is programmed to function thus)

This should be the correct GRBL build: https://carbide3d.com/files/grbl11/grbl11e20161219.hex

For what it’s worth, we haven’t shipped a machine with GRBL 0.9 since around 2016. It’s pretty rare for us to upgrade machines that old these days, and honestly, our team doesn’t have much experience with the process anymore. Because of that, we’ve had to stop providing support for it.

That’s fine, I just don’t see why the software can’t still be available if it was at one time.

So I just need this file and the Arduino SDK to flash it?
