Shapeoko Pro zero off after bit measurement

I am having an issue with my Shapeoko Pro where after I set the x, y, and z zero on the piece ofwod I am going to cut. Then, when it moves to measure the bit immediately after, the last inch or so of the x direction sounds like it stutters real hard before it gets to the sensor. Then it measures and returns to the x and y zero position. However, I noticed that the y location was off, so I re-zero it and it was off by 3.996mm. When I set x,y, and z to zero again, it will go to measure the bit without problem and the x, y, and z will be accurate. But, EVERY time I set it up for a cut and zero it, the first time it measures the bit, it always stutters and then the y is off by +3.996mm.

Prior to this happening, I had just replaced all 3 of my belts and oiled the machine. After doing all that, I ran a 4"x4" test square, which was off by about 0.1", so I had to recalibrate the x and y distances and now the sizing is accurate, but this is when the stuttering all started. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Sounds as if you need to re-configure the BitSetter since the belt stretch calibration changed that position:

Other things to check:

  • all wiring in good condition and all connectors secure
  • pulley set screws securely in place — put a witness mark across the end of the motor shaft/pulleys to keep an eye on whether or no the pulley shifts on the shaft
  • belt tension: Measuring belt tension, squaring and calibration
  • mechanical interference — make sure that nothing gets in the way of the machine moving
  • lubrication — CNC Machine Maintenance
