Smal Text, Which Bit and Tool Path?

Hey guys,

What routor bit and tool path would you recommend i run for the smal text below. Text will be around 1/4 inch high, and this logo will go ona coffee pod holder. How deep would you go with the printing. 2 mm? And what would my toolpath look like for this. The logo will be like 3 inches tall by 5 wide and while im asking what would use for the FL part?

Appreciate this form, you all are an amazing group of human beings

Thanks in advance.

V-carving works well for small text provided it’s in some nice hardwood that doesn’t splinter out.
How deep the V-carve goes depends on the angle of the V-bit - 90 degree bit will make a shallower carve whereas a 30 degree bit will carve in deeper. The Advanced V-carve in CCv7.xx allows you to cleanout flat areas of a logo with an endmill & then run a V-bit around the edge for sharp corners.

In vcarving the tool path should always be set to bottom of material. If you limit depth on a simple vcarve you get unexpected results. Then the vee bit will go in as deep as necessary to touch both sides of the line. Thin material you can cut all the way through. So if you need to limit depth use advanced vcarve and not simple vcarve.

On real thin text and a 90/60 degree bit you may barely scratch the surface. On thin lines I like to use a 15 and/or 30 degree vee bit. Use advanced vcarve and if the flat areas are not big enough for the flat end mill you pick the vee bit will do all the work. But with advanced vcarve you can safely limit depth and still get a vcarve.

Please note that in the new v8 beta:

that the toolpath formerly known as Advanced VCarve is now the basic V-carve, so setting the depth limit will work as most folks expect.
