S5Pro owner with the VFD spindle. Was wondering if anyone had upgraded any other parts on the machine, particularly the steppers.
I don’t think you would be able to upgrade them significantly without going to a whole new controller. The stepper drivers are built-in to the the main control board and they are matched to the steppers if I recall correctly.
Unless you have a 2.2kw spindle and are going for really high feed rates, I don’t imagine they need much more power.

Beat me to it, this has always been my longterm plan, full conversion, ballscrew and linear rail upgrades.
Nema 24-32 steppers
The HG15’s are fine for this application but when you get to higher torque loads you should really switch to roller bearings instead of ball bearings in your blocks.
Ballscrews should really be 20mm
4hp possibly with ATC but maybe not because of the price and production quantities I make.
