Trouble with bitsetter on Shapeoko Pro

I have been running my Shapeoko Pro XXL for about a month and not had any real major issues. I was running Motion on my laptop and today I got a new computer for the shop to run the machine instead.

I realized that I had to set the machine up again on the new computer and so as I went through the setup procedure from the book that came with the machine, I ran into an issue. The Y axis will not come all the way out to the middle of the bitsetter, it was there before with the other machine so this is not a limitation of the machine. What is the difference now? What can I try to get this sorted out? I need it to go about 1/4 inch more to be in the middle rather than just at the edge of the bitsetter button.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you

The extent of the X/Y axis are set in the CM configuration file - the default setting for the Y-axis is a bit short I believe. You could copy the configuration file from the old laptop to the new laptop & it should just work as long as the CNC controller settings haven’t been changed up.

One possible solution may be to calibrate for belt stretch:

That said, it’s mostly a matter of style to have it perfectly centered — the important thing is that the center of the tool is solidly within the area of the button.

When you were configuring the bitsetter did you just select the default position? Once it’s in the default position you need to jog the spindle over the button. After you do that you have to click “save”.

So this morning I came out for another try. I went through the entire setup again and this time it would allow me to jog out over the bitsetter without issue. From there though, when I tried to enable the bitsetter, the manual I have and any of the manuals I can find online on the website here do not even remotely look like what I am using in some circumstances. I follow the guide where it advises not to enable the bitsetter during initial setup, then when I come back to it per the manual, it doesn’t look the same at all, there are similarities but not what the images show.

The biggest issue I have is when I have toggled the spindle over the bitsetter, got it all straight on, it asks me to click the Set Current Location button, ya, that doesn’t exist, the window I am working with does not have that option at all. Not sure how I got it to work before but I did somehow.

So now when it tries to check the bit on the bitsetter, the machine moves to it’s home position at the back right and burys the bit into the table.

So it turns out that you do want to enable the bitsetter in the software during the initial setup, works perfect now. Thank you
