I was reading an old thread by Winston when he was testing more aggressive GRBL settings, and I wanted to compare his notes to the current setting for the 5pro.
We did that for a reason. Stepper motors have a range of RPMs where they are the most effective, and lose power afterwards. Think of it as the redline of your car engine. The “gear ratio” of the 5 Pro is higher than the belt driven Shapeoko’s, so we limit the feedrate for your own protection. The stepper motors could technically spin faster, but at such a low torque that there’s a risk they would randomly stall.
TLDR: It goes a little slower, but has many times better power and accuracy vs belt drives.
