V-Carve border question

Hello,

I just had some brass plaques cut by a pro die cutter and he did something really cool on some text pockets. He used a V bit around the inside of the paths to catch the corner details on the serifs etc. The actual letters weren’t V-carved, just regular pockets.

Is this a specific function or just knowing what you’re doing and using a v-bit inside to the proper depth?

There are some fonts which have such design elements — could be that — post a photo?

One way to do this is a VCarve with a clearance bit (ie: CC’s Advanced VCarve) followed by an inner profile with a regular small bit. That is, do it the other way around and finish off with the regular profile cut.

Here’s a discussion of mixing Advanced and Normal V carving:

I don’t have a good picture, but he used the same effect on other parts to create a bevel on the outside of some scrollwork trim that would’ve been sharp otherwise

I’ll check out advanced V carving.

Thanks.

Hello,

So I set up a job with multiple tool paths and changes to run on my Shapeko and realized I woundn’t be able to reset the Z after each tool change…

I disabled all but one at a time and can run multiple individual jobs to do this, but that still leaves the Advanced VCarve line which has an end mill pocket and V bit… is that possible on the XxL or is it a job for the Nomad?

Thanks

It’s a job for a machine w/ a BitSetter, whether Shapeoko or Nomad — the Advanced V carving pocket clearing option for tool change expects the tool change to be managed by a BitSetter.

Gotcha, wow I feel so dumb for not knowing and having this. Just ordered one and a bitRunner
