V7 to V8 file conversion

Hi,
I have brought this up before but, I can’t fine the messages relating to it but, I have been using V7 for the last couple of years. I was using it today on a project that took over 7 hours. It all worked fine and saved with no issues. When I returned to it a couple of hours later the file I created in V7 would not open in V7 nor will my other files. I’m trying to work out how I can convert the files from V7 To V8. In V8 all the Modeling’s components have gone. Any advice would be very welcome.
Cheers.

Not certain about what the problem is here - v7 files created with CC v7 open with CC v7. CC v8 changed the way 3D models were handled & v7 files do not open properly in v8 which means any v7 project has to be re-created(at least the 3D modeling part) in v8.

If your files which were previously saved do not open at all, that suggests a problem with the save location(HDD, SDD, network, cloud) & that the file data is either corrupted or simply not there - which would really suck.

Note that most modern OSs afford a file versioning/backup option — if that is enabled, one can right-click on a file and check for previous versions.

This sucks more than anyone will understand.

I have spent the last 18 months getting things ready to start business in February next year. I have many complicated files that have taken months to create in readiness.
It’s a long story but, starting my business in February meant I could remain in the house I’m living in and not be sanctioned by the government here because I can’t find other work due to disabilities. This file change will now cost me my home that I have been fighting to keep by trying to get everything ready for the business. This may now scupper any chances of work. Self employment was my last hope and not being able to retrieve my files has, potentially, ended everything I have been working so hard to achieve. Why Can’t I just keep using V7 as a stand-alone programme? I can use V8 for all the new files but is there a way I can keep using V7 even without updates to it? I am now desperately seeking a solution.

You can continue to use v7 and it will work as it always has — assuming you have a CC Pro Perpetual license, a Subscription license of course requires that one upgrade — if you have difficulties with the specifics of licensing and so forth, please check in w/ the folks at sales@carbide3d.com

Thank you WillAdams,

I do have the CC Pro Perpetual License. (Dec-2026)
I have spent a lot of time trying to work out what the issue was and it appears that another glitch has caused the problem.
On the surface, everything seemed to have worked fine during the making and saving of the file but, it appears that a glitch, or bug, infected both the file and the V7 program at the same time.
I have deleted and reloaded the V7 download and as soon as it appeared to work super fast in comparison, I realised that it must have been a bug. Where the bug lay is a mystery, whether it was with CC or my Laptop or Windows I don’t know. The modeling’s of the files were lost but the vectors are all intact. It just means I have to redo all the modeling components for a number of files.
Anyway, my apologies for the rant at the start of the post, I can’t explain how important it is for me to get this business off the ground asap.
I did come across something though. As I was trying to sort out all the files I found that it would have been so much easier if it were possible to preview the files in the file explorer menu. With so many files and dozens of projects, no matter how well I name the files, it’s not always easy to find and organise them without the ability to see a visual image of the vectors in file explorer preview. Is this something that can be done in the future, to help manage files?

Thank you again.

When does the subscription license stop working with V7? I have both 7 & 8 installed now & 7 still has Pro functionality.

Such problems are why we have our software as local installs which the installers of can be archived, and afford the option of a perpetual license.

At this time, there isn’t a preview option for the file. There are a number of potential work-arounds — usually I have a .pdf of a design for some reason or other in the folder for a given project and that works well.

Since Carbide Create can now print, that can be re-directed to a PDF — if need be, edit that in a 3r party vector drawing tool?

I do not know. I believe the date check is only forward, so any old version will continue to work:

with a valid license.

I meant of course, that if one had a subscription which came to an end, it would need to be renewed for future usage/versions.
