What did you cut on your Shapeoko/ Nomad today?

I hate it when space time folds while I am machining something. So many cutting boards thrown out due to 4th dimensional warping.

That right there is reason enough to get CC Pro! Very Cool. Donā€™t suppose youā€™re willing to share the file?

Isnā€™t it something how tech changes. I just read through your detailed write-up on your laser cut profile. Super ingenuous to make your laser to work to get the effect you wanted.

Nowā€¦lasers machines have the ability to map any surface, to a certain degree slope, and automatically builds a mesh of that profile for the laser to maintain its focal point. Pretty cool stuff.

The thing I like the most about the model I made, is something you canā€™t really see, but in its overall thickness.

As the ball bearing is pushing down on the material, the material stretches down  I thought that was a pretty cool little feature of the design. The top thickness is .5, with the bottom of the curve is under 1/4 to an 1/8th.

@ScottsdaleSteve Iā€™m cleaning up the file this morning, getting ready to do the build video and hopefully post later this afternoon. Will be available on my Patreon.

The file has 3 diffrent options

Option 1 is the using veneer and doing multiple glue-ups for the grid pattern. I chose that option

Option 2, using a V Carve Strategy to paint the lines on the mapped surface

Option 3, using a laser with that mapping capability to paint the lines

Only downside for options 2 and 3, you do not get those fancy lines on the sides, unless you really get creative.

Cheers

Thatā€™s excellent! Great way to meet people, get a little attention for your work and possibly earn some business and/or referrals. Good luck!

I made some signs for the rock festival Iā€™m attending this weekend. (rocklahoma.com)

For the bigger one 24x36in i cut on the cnc. I used tintable stain for the coloring.
The other two I used the same stain but used the laser.

I live in East Texas but get my TV station from Shreveport LA. They cover the ArkLaTex which covers part of Eastern Oklahoma. Today we had some strange wet stuff fall from the sky, oh yea rain. It is normally quite dry in August but the weather report says a 10-50% chance of rain for the next couple of days and that may include Oklahoma. So take an umbrella and Rock On!!!

Iā€™m almost embarrassed to post this but Iā€™m pretty new and learning on scrap wood. Iā€™m not even sure the pictures will load.

Please donā€™t be embarrassed, this is very nice work for being pretty new to CNC. :+1: :+1:

Everyone starts CNC not knowing how to CNC.

Yep, I played a few games with it today with some guys in the office. It works better than I expected it would, and makes for a noticeably more ā€œspringyā€ return. Completely ridiculous, but fun project.

Your carves are very nice. No one was born with the knowledge to operate a CNC. Everyone here on the forum started at zero. So your carves are nice and as long as you keep moving forward that is what is important. Keep calm and keep machining @Julien

Very nice. I have made some beautiful firewood. Took me a long time to be proud enough to give my work to family.

I love this. I Love this. I Love this. Itā€™s like the old school carving that made it easy to identify the businesses of yesteryear. very inspirational. and did I mention that I Love it?

To prevent dye from bleeding into the end grain try applying a layer of shellac in the cut areas.

Welcome to the world of CNC!

Thank you, I did apply one spray on layer of shellac, but I rubbed the black in pretty hard to get it in all of the groves. Iā€™ll get better at thisā€¦some day  .
