Wooden Gridfinity toolbox

A project I’m working up to is making a wooden gridfinity toolbox. I designed a 3D printed one that got some traction on Makerworld… but I really want to make it out of baltic birch.

For the Gridfinity box, that’s something I’ve been looking into a bit as well.

A wooden box is one-half of the categorization of furniture into two types:

and after exploring a number of different joinery options, my current technique of choice is a full-blind miter box joint:

The bottom should probably be cut out with a larger tool, so as to save time, so: [image] [image] Apply [image] [image] [image] Lastly, the toolpaths will need to be arranged and ordered adjust for optimal material removal — in particular, the small V to full depth toolpath should be cut last and may have its Start Depth set to the bottom of the joinery depth toolpath. though I do have a fondness for the flexibility of choosing which side material will be present in for what I call a quarter-blind miter box joint:

which made possible an integrated hinge:

which probably gets joinery as far as-is possible in the current Carbide Create (I would love to either be proven wrong, or for Carbide Create to gain the last toolpath which would make a joint which I have envisioned, but been unable to reasonably implement in CAM).

This is awesome - so cool to see and gives me a few ideas. Appreciate you posting it Will! I’ll post what I have in CAD so far - I’m still getting around to the hinges and some details on the lid. Base is ready to cut once I find the time (and wrap up those knives). I’m keeping it pretty close to the 3D printed version I designed with the intent that they’ll hopefully be fully compatible.
