Definitely put a torsion box top under the Shapeoko. You need the flat surface.

That’s very similar to where I was going with my torsion box design (that wood whisperer video is one that I used as source material). The main, outstanding element I had left in my Fusion project was offsetting the alternating rows of small pieces. My construction plan was to use hot glue to assemble the initial grid, rather than pin nails or pocket screws, so butting the ends wouldn’t make assembly difficult. I like the idea of leaving the other options available.

Here’s the ISO of what I built, Guy. [CNCTorsionBox2019-09-15-2] Here’s how it was put together: Shapeoko table plans I didn’t put any fasteners at the half-lap joints; just glue. The top and bottom only had a few small brads to lock the grid to it while the glue was drying. Rock solid flat for over a year now. I bought legs from Amazon and added a shelf below for the dust collection. EDIT#3: The grid is on 8" centers, and the table is 4" thick.

Mine has been stable for years, and there’s room to add a cover.
