Z Axis Zero Issues

I saw this subject already:

The solution with the zip tie has me thinking. I had an issue with the molex connectors for both the Z and Y proximity switches (home sensors) and I’m currently waiting on a new Y sensor and a new extension cable for the Z gantry. In both cases there was a bad connection (Z cable was actually wired backwards) with the molex connector. I’ve just started my Shapeoko 4 up for the first time this past weekend and these connections have been a thorn in my side. I haven’t had the Z-axis hold zero yet. I tried tightening the spindle holder, the tool, the connectors, etc. But every time I start my project, after the bitsetter step it buries itself into my project. The first cut’s only supposed to be .1", and my last attempt cut that just making it’s way into position.

I’m an electrician for a manufacturing facility, so I’m going to try some bullet connectors and lose the molex connectors altogether as see if that works (just on the stepper motor for now). I’ll update with my results after.

This is possibly a stupid answer, but have you double checked in the setup wizard that your are using the correct Z setup? Zplus or HDZ? Yes, the molex connectors are always suspicious.

The bullet connectors I used solved a good portion of my z-issues, but it seems the biggest issue came down to using the wrong type of bit for what I was trying to do… Consider this topic solved.
