Tips? Run again?!
Forgot the 1mm starting depth. Does this mean male/female won’t work?
Starting male inlay below top is vetric method. That makes inlay slightly smaller than pocket but is harder on small bits. Not sure but new versions of inlay mode are doing some magic about making inlay slightly smaller than pocket. The gaps are likely the mechanism to accomplish this. If you make both pocket and inlay same depth and only flip inlay they won’t fit together well. So set gaps and inlay slightly shallower than pocket.
Normally Starting Depth is 0 — why would it be something else?
I can’t help you with your current pickle, but I recommend you ditch version 764 and update to the latest for future inlay projects. In v777, they completely changed how inlays work (in a very good way). The new Advanced VCarve looks different now:
Here’s a related thread with my test results:
And here’s the original post announcing the new features:
Ah totally assumed I had the latest version! Updating tmw
That video was created with Carbide Create v777 (which has the new version of Advanced VCarve). I can see how there would issues using the settings from the video with an older version of CC. Hopefully it just works for you now.
Yes, Vectric has you set the start depth below zero which has always confused me some. I think that in their methodology the start depth for the plug is the same plane as the top surface of the pocket.
I guess if it’s really too deep you could run a pocket clearing operation to get to that depth first.
Thank goodness worked out this time around! Updated the program and will try the new way with next project. Thanks all of you. You are making the maze of CNC navigation-able (is that a word?) for this newbie!
