those are the newest steps… no more downloads
This looks so good except Step 2 which has completely baffled me - the link takes me to some raw code. Do you know if https://products.groupdocs.app/conversion/stl-to-png works as well?

has updated and much more detailed instructions… please check those out.
No local apps needed, just a page you go to in your browser.
This is so helpful, thank you!
Hello,
I like the idea of creating a heightmap grayscale from STL files.
I clicked on the link for Github and saw a list of files.
do you use all the files?
I’m confused… How do I download the program to do this?
See:
Misunderstanding…
I just want to create the heightmap grayscale file. I have a program to convert grayscale to Gcode.
I do not have CC-pro.
Is this an issue?
Use that link from the post,
https://fenrus75.github.io/FenrusCNCtools/stl2nc/stl2nc.html
It’s an online tool, and will generate both the PNG grayscale heightmap you want, and the gcode (which in your case will not be useful)
Are you aware of a program that will just create the grayscale image I am looking for?
Misunderstanding I guess: that tool does create the grayscale image you want, in PNG image format. It also happens to generate some g-code, but ignore that, and you have your solution.
Click choose file, load your STL, and bam, you get a grayscale heighmap, download it using the link. Here’s an example where I loaded the STL of a half sphere:
Thanks for the assist!
