Runing a larger project on the Shapeoko 5 Pro 4x2

I have another question for those who purchased the Shapeoko 5 Pro 4x2.
I don’t have a lot of room to get the 4x4 and put it. It looks like I will go with the 4x2. I know there will be times when I will want to make a project larger than 4x2.
How difficult is it to splice (not sure if that the right word) put a 4x4 piece of material in the machine and do half of it and then shift the board to do the other half?
My concern is lining things up so that the second part of the project matches up before I run it.

Do any of you have any experience with this and how easy is it?

Rick

The term you are searching for is “tiling”.

It was added as a feature in Carbide Create Pro:

I went to the Carbide Create Beta Downloads and I did not see CC 752 listed there.
Is that because I am not registered yet and am using the trial version?

The current version of 778. I did my first tiling job a month or so ago. It worked very well and is quite easy. The issue would be the space behind your machine to push the work through. Here is the pdf I wrote up about how I did my tiling job.

CarbideCreate_Tiling.pdf (1.5 MB)

Thank you gdon_2003. I don’t have a machine yet. I am contemplating the 4x2. I am just doing all my research and asking questions now.

Thank you.

That should be read as “752 or later”, so 813 as available at:

will work.

In case you haven’t watched it yet, here’s a great video on tiling.

No, I had not seen this video. Thank you.
I am not seeing this my trial version .813.
Maybe it is in the Pro Version?

As was previously noted:

If you’d like to try the Pro version for free, Carbide 3D offers a 14-day trial.

There are also other very cool features that come with the Pro version.
