One of the things I find myself doing is not just looking at the great CNC work people show off (which I love seeing) but also checking out any parts of their shop that I can see in their pics. So…if you are willing, share pics of your shop! Any current pics, upgrades you’ve made and love, your favorite tools.
I’ll start.
This is my CNC work space in my shop… one of my favorite places in the world.
Unfortunately, my “shop” is a one end of a basement laundry room, and not very photogenic, while two of my machines are set up in a finished basement which still hasn’t gotten fully organized.
Maybe the low table where I keep tooling and tools will be of interest:
The empty organizer at the lower right of the photo is my “current job” tooling and collet area — endmills and their containers go into it as I work, and the current one has the labeled portion arranged across and on top so that it can be easily read/the number can be seen.
Actually getting everything arranged so that I can work comfortably and put things away and access them at need (and know where they are — there’s a pack of rare earth magnets which I know I bought, but which I can’t locate) is an on-going project which hopefully I can make some headway on.
I have two shops, but my little one is the one I get to keep (almost, I have dogs for shop buddies) exclusively for myself. It’s only 12x16’, but it has heat and a/c so it works for me. I keep most everything but the CNC on wheels and have an outdoor cutting space as well. I need to upgrade my traditional power tools, but for now they do the job.
I like the triangulation on your CNC table legs, Charles. And I have a sudden vision of lining my apartment living room walls with perfboard backed with Rockwool
LOL… that is a crate that my lawn mower came in. It’s stable as a rock. I live near Charleston SC so the insulation is super important, but it also helps with sound. My neighbor was dying when I built this shop so that was super important. The pegboard is priceless. I am totally unable to deal with tool boxes. My 900sqft Pole Barn is equipped the same way.
This is my shop, it is my third one in my third house in close to 50 years. It is under my garage so it is really a man cave, concrete all around. Some of the tools have been upgrade two or three times thru the years. I have improved and equipped this shop in more than 20 years. I have build all the cabinetry and storage in this shop. Also have presented some projects on this forum.
In the back corner of the shop is my shared room for spray painting and laser engraving. I am using the window to exhaust fume from painting or smoke from the laser.
Moved where my vacuum setup is. Much more out of the way. Tucked in with my compressor and behind my chopsaw. Soon…vacuum system ORGANIZATION! I have the parts. Just need to do it.
Gary, here is the answer to your question, the size of the main part of the shop is 24 x 24 ft.
Under the stairs leading to the garage I have a 12 gal StealthSonic Dewalt shop-vac equipped with a cyclone in a closet, and upstair in a room at the back of the garage is my Clearview cyclone. I always keep an air return passage, but it still reduce the noise a lot.
Last year I bought a track saw and a Bora sawhorse kit that I install in the garage when needed so I don’t have to bring the sheet goods downstairs to cut them. When getting old, things seems to get heavier
Please keep the shop pics coming. I’m prepping my 24x24 pole barn walls to be spray foamed insulated next week, blow in fiberglass insulation for the ceiling and a mini spit installed later in the fall. I have ideas but really like to see what other have done.
After insulating my 30x30 pole barn, I installed peg board all the way around. I hang every conceivable tool on the pegboard because i am allergic to toolboxes. I am pretty happy with that. My little shop is the same way.
