Sweepy Pro Workflow

I’ve done longer bristles on Sweepy “Winston” bottoms in two different ways:

  • simply using a hose clamp or zip tie to secure longer bristles (bought a roll on Amazon) Usually having double-sided tape helps to hold things in place while getting things started (but it also then grabs dust)
  • cut away the projection and glue a screw on portion of an acrylic jar to which various lengths of bristles or equivalents were attached

So here’s a challenge for someone who has some 3D printing capabilities. I’d certainly be willing to invest in it, if it’s possible.

The idea is to make a new Sweepy Pro boot that has two features:

  1. An inner diameter wide enough to allow the 80mm spindle to pass through it. Right now, the clear plastic support ring is big enough, but the inner diameter of the ring on the boot that holds the bristles is too small a diameter and makes contact with the spindle as it deep-plunges
  2. A mechanism to allow the boot to be removed / slid out, without having to fully remove the thumb screws (or a more powerful magnetic solution).

I would settle for item 1, if only one thing could be done…but it would be great to have both.

I think option 2 would be better. I may try cutting off that projection with my laser.

My Sweepy Pro cleats the BitSetter just by raising it up all the way. The bristles brush the BitSetter, but it costs just fine. I’ve never had to remove the bottom, just loosen the height adjustment and raise it all the way.

Josh. When I raise the Sweepy to its highest point, the spindle carrier for the 80mm spindle contacts the top of the retaining ring when it plunges into the workpiece (I think it misses for the bitsetter, because the bitsetter is so high). Therefore, you have to re-lower the boot with the bit spinning (if you have a spindle) and also “know” the right height to reset it to.

Also - I had the situation where the bristles brushed the bitsetter firmly enough to trigger the lights on the bitsetter — and the sequence for zero-ing repeated infinitely…so that didn’t work either.

Sounds like you have your spindle lower in the mount than I do based on that.

It’s not a question of spindle height actually. It’s the 80mm mount and the fixed plastic ring of the SweepyPro that are connecting when I lift the mount to the top.

Interesting. I haven’t experienced that. There are 2 or 3 mounting heights for that mount. Maybe I’m using a different one?

I was concerned about that as mine brushed over but it wasn’t an issue. I assumed CM was ignoring the press until the Z was lowering.

I will send some pics with measurements of how mine is mounted later.

Here are some pics showing my sweepy pro in the highest and lowest settings. Remember that I have the rider blocks installed.


I used my laser to cut the flange out of the insert that had no brushes. It’s not pretty and not exactly centered I doubt that it would let the full body of the spindle through but it should allow the lower section through OK. The width of the overall piece is 80mm so cutting an 80mm circle in it wouldn’t really work.

I will think about the brush attachment next. I will have to see if I can find a jar the right size as suggested by @WillAdams
