that 2" tube was meant for my enclosure. Going to have to visit the steel yard again… which is always dangerous.

Took a break on the HDM to take care of work stuff. Yesterday, I powered on the HDM for the first time. I’ve had it for months. Works like a champ so far.

I also mounted the HDM to the base frame. This will have to be redone once I do final placement and tramming of the enclosure in its spot in the garage. I ordered a shim kit.

I have one part ot remake on the hopper. I got excited and rushed through bending and wound up bending the last part the wrong direction. So, I will have to undo that and rebend it the correct direction. Then I can rivet it all together, paint, and install.

From there I can do final placement on the enclosure and actually start using the HDM. I have already built the warthog elec enclosure box (see above). I have a few small things I want to build on the HDM, then I will move on to fabricating the doors, panels for the bottom. I need to order some parts for all the electronics, lighting, etc. Lots of research to do as well.

Love it when a plan comes together. As far as bending it the wrong way you are not the first nor the last to make a booboo. As long as you can fix it no harm no foul. :wink:

Well, I banged out TWO panels that I screwed up. The maths hurt. Actually, the geometry hurts when it is upside down. Now, tomorrow I will start gluing it together.

My shop press is still not enough. I built a 30", and I need 48". If I built a 48"…

Have you ever considered using all these skills to make a more robust machine? Just the cost of this enclosure should be enough to make something akin to a Tormach but more rigid.

Funny you should mention that. I have in fact considered this. But, there are a few system and environmental parameters that you don’t know that make the calculus difficult to justify at this time. Main factors were space. I don’t have room in my shop for anything much bigger than an HDM. If I were to build my designs I would want a BIG work area to make it worth the trouble.
In the end it just made more sense to buy an HDM.

I designed a 1325CNC based machine, and I even ordered the transmission parts. I still have the linear rails and rack and pinion for sale.

Also, I designed the world’s first, as far as I can tell… torsion box CNC machine frame. The EX0-TCNC. I have the design for sale.

Having trouble figuring out how to set Z height for a toolpath on simulation with the machine. It appears to use the default position from the machine configuration. I must have missed something.

So, I saw this while scrolling. Interesting door design.

Fusion insists on starting in the wrong way.



hopper is ready for prep and paint after gluing it.

It would seem the C3D coordinate system X & Y values are flipped. The zero point is where the machine initializes to and it’s all positive machine values from there.

So you would need that option per Axis in the Fusion machine that allows for this.

No I haven’t gotten any further on my machine definition, but this was a question I was wondering about.

I finished painting the v3 hopper that I fab’d. Going out to the shop to install it soon. I also installed the C3D air kit. I haven’t taken pics yet, but I will later.

Also made some big revisions to the Vertical Work Holding Bracket and setup in preparation for cutting the brackets on the laser next week.

I don’t suppose someone has a CAD model for the HDM bitsetter and bitzero?

Well, it rained in the desert, so I stayed in and got distracted. Designed a 1" work plate for the HDM.
