The student will love the plaque no matter what kind of wood it is made of. When my grandson was about 10 (now 30) I made a scroll saw project of a horse and a picture of him sitting on a horse. He still has that hanging on the wall.
I remember these old signs from my trip to CA soon after returning from the Army. They were working on the Interstate then and it was 10 miles of US66 then 10 miles of Intestate for a very long stretch! It is a nice copy of the original signs!
Ok compared to all of you this is very boring - but it will make the yard less messy come spring here in Ontario. Bike stand found on instructables and edited to work with Shapi. And the hexagon cut for my headphones which I was trying to figure out a while ago. Bowl in background was my first time trying something in 3D. Very fine groove pattern if you look closely. Will need some hardware and a vase as is meant as wallflowers conceptual design.
@bpedit - now I’m gonna try to figure out how you do what you do as that looks like fun!
Great imagination and presentation
Let me know if there’s something in particular you’d like to replicate. When time avails, I’ll write up a more detailed tutorial.
All these projects are great, but sometimes there’s some losses. Those happen too. A set screw fell out of somewhere blocking my v-wheel. Last operation before I was set to send it out too.
Yeah stuff happens sometimes… although sometimes I think I’ve made more firewood than finished projects ![]()
Now that’s a fun, low stress way to get some nice coloring. Blend to your hearts content before you blow away the material.
Maybe make up a quick paper stencil print out to guide your painting if it’s more complex than a gag gift manatee ![]()
Even easier than that. I had a block of birch scrap already blue. I contoured the basic shapes at .05 depth, shaded in the lines, and then ran the project.
I like it still !
Reminds me of an illusion.
Maybe some offset text would work well with it.
Oh no … song stuck in my head “baby beluga in the deep blue sea…”
Interesting clamping for a quick cut. I still need to make some of those “comma claps” for faster clamping.
Could’ve ripped the scrap smaller I suppose, but it was the wrong width for grabbing from any channel. Just blocked it on all sides and crushed it. Not a good tutorial for anybody but it was solid.
I am making the wife some tree of life panels for the wall. Here is the prototype in MDF. I did mess up the last panel by measuring 0.505" material thickness and entering 0.55" in CC. My tabs disappeared, some branches, and some of the freshly surfaced spoilboard.
Looks great!
That’s why I usually make a prototype with a new and/or larger design that has some intricate elements to it - to catch the mess-ups there rather than the real project. ![]()
I think it’s kinda cool looking. Reminds me of an old Bangles song “Walk Like an Egyptian”
Today I finished a set of six 4" coasters in Ash for a fan of Mr. White & Mr. Blonde et al.
1mm v-carves, though it looks more like a painting!
Oh this gives me all sorts of ideas. Excellent job on your execution.
Riffing on the painting comment, an interesting idea to keep them on display and stored out of the way might be to embed little magnets in the back of each coaster.
Thin sheet of metal command striped to the wall to stick em too ![]()
Keeps them on full display and makes it silly simple to grab and use when necessary.
It would be a shame to simply stack them and lose the full effect of your efforts ![]()
Could you share your process of the “painting”? Did you use oramask or something else?
