How do my chips look? Speed and feed looks about right?
Maybe a bit small (depending on the size of the tool and number of flutes)?
Hard to tell from a photo w/o a sense of scale/distance — so long as there’s no melting, it should be fine though.
Marleen, did you have any trouble with “curly” chips scratching the painted aluminum skin?
Spectacular!!
Successfully created simulated Woodgrain. First sign was good, but on this one I moved from a 60° to a 30° Vee groove. Created a much better look (less angle off the letters. More better).
And the finished product as delivered. Success after much struggle = Extreme Satisfaction!!
That is great, well done,I like the sharpness of the letters.
Very simple serving board project made with 23mm thick Padauk, a 1/4" downcut, 1/4" ballnose, and 1/4" V60 bits. Finish is my own formulation of 100% tung oil and orange solvent, both food safe.
What is the material ?
1 1/2" HDU.
Wow that really looks amazing !
None. The curls you may see are the plastic layer on top of material to protect from scratches
Killer Job Adam that is very cool!
Looks great.
I was thinking about this earlier today. We buy decking and siding made from artificial materials that have artificial wood grain embossed or carved into them. However, if we had real wood with that much prominent grain we would keep planing or sanding.
Very true! It’s kind of weird. I’ve been thinking a lot about why we have moved away from sandblasted wood to a faux look as well.
One is longevity. Cedar just isn’t what it used to be. We have some of our original signs that are old sandblasted wood and they have lasted 36 years. If I was to use “modern” cedar now, I would barely expect 15 years now.
Another is cost. Think about roofing. Cedar shakes were replaced with asphalt architectural shingles (to save money) and now plastic that look like cedar shakes. It’s crazy. Exactly what you were saying.
I saw these and was thinking how great it would be to make these signs for our pool. Nice!!
ColorCore is good for the pool signs but do some testing to get a finish you like. Darker interior colors may show marks until you find something that works for you. It’s not an issue in normal lettering just in larger pockets.
I am sure the HDU would be great as well but I am guessing would need periodic repainting.
I like the color core for the durability. HDU less so, better for shaping.
I finished my first stacked text project today. Getting the painted areas along the sides of the letters cleaned up was challenging, isnt perfect but I’m pretty happy with the end result.
Still haven’t figured out how to round overs on my Shapeoko yet but I did cut out the cutting boards out and cut the juice groove. I didn’t align the maple/walnut one correctly for the juice groove is out of alignment a little . The simple charcuterie board was for my brother and sister-in-law’s 17th anniversary.
