I have been really interested in making some honey comb themed table tops. Been looking at some designs. Always planning ahead. Nice looking mirror.
@Tod1d Youâre around here enough. Youâre expected to remember every post on every thread.
My sister had a special wall that when you walked into the Front door you could see two very large, long mirrors, however you could NOT see yourself in those mirrors. It really freaked people out.
So, if you make another of this wall hanging you might think about all different kinds of angles on the bottoms of your pockets to give each a different angled view. Just a thought for a fun project!
This hanging does look GREAT though! Good job!!!
These will be center slats in Adirondack chairs being built by a neighbor.
Simple V-carve with epoxy.
Oh those pesky neighbors. They just need a little thing done that takes hours. You have to love them. ![]()
And then, when you tell them the answer to âJust keep track of the costs, and Iâll pay you.â, they tell you they saw if from China for a quarter.
Neil, those are going to look good. Hope you get a photo of the finished chairs!
These are some finished chairs from before I suggested epoxy.
Here is the first round after a quick facing operation to clean up the epoxy.
Beautiful chairs Neil. The design really appeals.
Would you post a pic of the back? Iâm thinking I might make a few.
I purchased a 15 dollar Chinese knock-off chamfer plane that was surprisingly good for my standard and planned amount of use, so i figured its a keeper and worth making a box to keep all of its parts organized.
Drawn in fusion 360, made from a 20mm thick piece of oak.
2 sided job by use of dovels.2 sided job was to make the filets on top and bottom as im not used to having a chamfer plane!
(and to practice the technique by use of dovel pins)
Needs a little bit of sanding and a coat of oil before it hits the tool shelf.
I watched a video about Banggood tools. The presenter was impressed with the quality for 1/3 the price of Woodpeckers tools.
Letâs see now ⊠Chinese company vs. USA company ⊠which do I choose? ![]()
The suspense is killing us
Well, thatâs not all thatâs killing âUSâ. The price one pays for a tool doesnât always include all the hidden costs. Weâre finding out more all the time.
For those who are curious, the original design was popular enough that Woodpeckers made it a perpetual tool:
I have a tiny corner easing plane/tool which I bought from Woodcraft ages ago, which works well enough so long as one is careful of grain direction:
and before that, Stanley made a line of simple tools which Veritas has re-created:
https://www.leevalley.com/en-us/shop/tools/hand-tools/planes/32682-veritas-cornering-tool-set
and there was of course the venerable:
(which has unfortunately, been discontinued)
and there are traditional Chinese/Japanese/Korean planes for this task:
(still regretting not asking the craftsman I would see working on things when I was in Korea where they were getting their traditional tools â I have since managed to put together a modest set of chisels â probably it was too late even then)
or, one can pretty easily make a fence/shoe for using a block plane for this task, or just free-hand it. Making such a shoe for my Bridge City Tools HP-8X is on my to-do list:
though what I really want is the HP-6FX:
which has a fence for this purpose.
This weekâs project. Vintage Harley Davidson Sign Replica.
I started out with a Photo
I then converted it to Vectors. Lots of work went into this part. Yes, I did an Edge Trace but the photo has some goobers in it so I had to adjust.
Converted it into Vectric.
Carved it all out on my Shapeoko 3 XL.
BOOM.
I am not going to lie, after I saw this I pulled the Trigger on oneâŠ
April 2023 ETA⊠Yeehaw!!!
Nice sign. That sign cries out for epoxy fill. My friend that has passed away had a Screaming Eagle. That was a great bike. However some call Harley Davidsonâs Hardley Able. Varrrrroooom.
He came over to the house in Kingwood and it was a suburban neighbo hood. When he and his wife got ready to leave he turned on the Harley and kept revving it up. I finally told him I had neighbors that were not as appreciative of the sound as he was. Harley riders love to rev up the engines at stop lights. It is an iconic sound.
LOL. In the old days prior to EFI, I couldnât get my Harleyâs to idle. They are very cold heartâed when you first fire them up. Today, push the button and go.
I totally agree. An Epoxy Fill is in order.
