I am very new to the CNC hobby and also not real tech savvy. I bought a cnc file online and downloaded it. How do i get it to Carbide Create?

This would depend on the file format purchase.
If a .c2d file, just open.
If a DXF or SVG it should work to open:
https://my.carbide3d.com/gswcc/07
you’ll then need to assign toolpaths.
If an STL you’ll need Carbide Create Pro:
and see:
https://my.carbide3d.com/gswccpro/07/
and also see
First, configure the stock:

Draw in the geometry for the bowl and place as desired:
Inset by the desired width of the rim of the bowl:
Offset to the outside of the bowl by endmill diameter plus 10%:

Draw in geometry to define the stock (since we’ll be working subtractively):
Go to the 3D model tab and model the stock:
Select the geometry for the inner curve of the bowl and model it:

Then im…
and
as requested on support…
Given an STL file:
which one wants to cut out as:
one first loads it into Carbide Create Pro:
which previews in 3D as expected:
When an STL is imported, the perimeter will be traced:
Assuming one wants to cut around the 3D object, one offsets from this by endmill diameter plus 10% or so:
It is then possible to assign a 3D roughing toolpath using this offset geometry:

Then a 3…
If it’s a pixel file, you’ll need to trace or re-draw.
We just posted CC 520 to: https://carbide3d.com/carbidecreate/download/
520 includes a big new feature for us, Image Tracing.
You should be able to load a JPG or PNG and get a reasonable set of curves from it very quickly.
A few caveats:
Right now, it’s mono only so color images will be converted to black and white using the thresholds in the window.
We’re not optimizing for very small images so some will work well, others won’t. We’d recommend images larger than 500px on a side …
If one only has a pixel image:
then one has three options:
auto-tracing — EDIT: Carbide Create has since gained this feature: Carbide Create - Image Tracing
using the pixel image using a tool such as MeshCAM or Carbide Create Pro’s texture feature
re-drawing — this is a tutorial on this:
Begin by going to Job Setup and setting the Stock Size and importing the image onto the background:

The only stupid questions are the ones you don’t ask. The forum is here to help. We have everyone from engineers to complete newbies. So just get help. It is good to try and figure out your own problems but ask before you start smashing stuff.

Thank you Guy. I was told this new retirement hobby would be a challenge but I will keep on going. Ha
