Got the spindle running today on my Shapeoko controlled via G Code
Ran into many hurdles along the way but it has been fun. I want to document more of what I did, but just wanted to paste some other threads I found extremely useful in my journey so far (partially for me!):
This particular insulation is rated for 1000V and the shielding is braided making it pretty thick. For those wondering how I got to 16 gauge, here is the math:
800W spindle / 110V x 1.73 = 12.58A - EDIT: I have since learned that this isn’t quite accurate. The correct math is this:
800W spindle / 110V / 0.75 power factor (approx) / 1.732 (3 phase magic because you are using 3 conductors to carry the current, not 2) = 5.6A
This is simplified and I am not the person to give more detail. An elec…
I’ve seen many people and I myself trying to find the correct connectors for the Shapeoko 3.
So I’ve compiled a list to have them all in one place. If you find any errors let me know. Also any connectors I may have missed.
Please note that there are many part numbers for crimp terminals.
Whether Tin or gold, Reel or bag and maybe more.
If you can’t find the one listed where you buy your parts, find the crimp terminal series and look for others.
On the Molex website a bit under the part numb…
Some of my notes. I think this is the degree of what I can assist with without being kicked out of the forum. I reckon that C3D support is careful not to give too much advice regarding warranty liability… “Y2” is interconnected in the X, Y, Z connectors, but else unused? “LIMIT_?” signals goes directly to CPU. BitZero and BitSetter has the exact same signals.
A tip for an emergency stop if the grounding clip from the BitZero has fallen off during probing - press BitSetter

Thanks Mr mingle for bringing up this subject
Multimeter says that the F signal is present on all X, Y, Z sensor input connectors. All signals seems to be mirrored on all connector and the individual wiring from each limit switch are using different pins except the Probe signal marked “P”. This is used both by the BitZero and the BitSetter.
This gave me a hint that if I ever, in the last minute, saw that I’ve forgot to attach grounding clip to the mill and probing sequence had s…
and while I’m here, two wiring snapshots .
220V Hot and Neutral wired to R and T (apparently, it would also work with R and S or S and T too), Earth connected to the VFD’s earth terminal
Spindle’s aviation connecteur pin 1 to U, pin 2 to V, pin 3 to W, pin 4 to Earth terminal

For control signals, I followed @Luke ’s instructions religiously:
FOR(ward) to DCM(ground) = forces forward rotation, i.e. the right direction.
Shapeoko’s GND to ACM (ground)
Shapeoko’s PWM to VI (v…
This morning I figured I would skim over the parameters out of curiosity, then got carried away and ended up making a note of every single parameter value currently set in my VFD and what it does. In others words, I RTFM. I will leave my notes here in case this could be useful for others with the same VFD model. I highlighted the ones that I think need to be considered for the Shapeoko usecase, feel free to comment if you went through the same exercize and optimized some of these params !
